Story:
Mukunda (Varun Tej) loves his friend Arjun and the only work our hero does in the film is, to save his friend every time from the bad guys. Mukunda gets into the bad books of Municipal Chairman (Rao Ramesh) due to his aggressive behaviour. He challenges Municipal Chairman and promotes Prakash Raj into the politics. Will Mukunda win over the Municipal Chairman? What kind of moves will he come up against a strong politician? All these threads combine the story of Mukunda.
Analysis:
After seeing the name of Srikanth Addala on the posters, audience will think about ‘Kotha Bangaru Lokam’ and ‘Seethamma Vaakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’ films. Without any second thoughts, they come into the theater to watch another romantic drama. But, Srikanth has changed the genre this time her tried to become Boyapati Srinu. Our hero will be busy only with fighting in the first half, campaigning for the elections in the second half. Srikanth Addala’s strong point is his ability to handle the love track and the drama episodes. Surprisingly, hero and the heroine doesn’t even talk in the film and the leading lady falls for Mukunda in the end. Once again, there is a Prakash Raj in Srikanth Addala’s film and his duty is to speak some random problems that our country in facing.
The scene, where Varun Tej enters the police station and tells the SI that he is going to stay till morning to go to the court has been well shot. As Srikanth Addala’s films lack entertainment factor, he took care of the story & screenplay in his previous films. Given the fact that there is no entertainment factor, the total drama unfolds in the first half of the film and there is no gripping factor in the second half. ‘Mukunda’ album became one the best in the recent times. However, songs are completely misplaced. Even the choreography was not up to the mark.
Performances:
Definitely not an impressive debut for Varun Tej. Agreed that this is his first film, but Varun doesn’t have any expressions in the movie. Throughout the film, he carries a solo expression and he needs to work on it. Pooja Hegde is good, but she doesn’t have much to offer. Rao Ramesh delivered another fantastic performance, but his role looked like an extension to that of SVSC. Prakash Raj was just ok. All the other artist have done their job.
Technicalities:
Mickey J Meyer is the major asset for Mukunda. After delivering soothing numbers, he came up with a wonderful Background Score. Cinematography by Manikandan is good. Srikanth handled the departments of story, screenplay, dialogues and direction. This time, he has failed in all these departments. Especially, those unwanted Telugu terminology words (Physics & Mathematics) were irritating.

Final Verdict: This film should work based on Srikanth Addala’s previous filmography. Otherwise, there is nothing much to talk about ‘Mukunda’. Not an impressive debut for Varun Tej.
